A lawsuit has been filed against Amazon MGM Studios, formerly known as Amazon Studios, alleging the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to replicate actors’ voices during the SAG-AFTRA strike from July 14 to November 9, 2023.

Despite the accusations, the production company has rejected them and intends to defend its stance in court.

Lance Hill, one of the original writers of the 1989 American action film “Road House,” has sued Amazon Studios for AI misuse and copyright infringement in the upcoming remake of the movie.

As per a report by EW, Hill asserts that Amazon commenced production on the “Road House” remake without obtaining proper licensing or waiting for the copyright to expire.

In addition, Hill claimed that Amazon employed AI when actors were unavailable due to a strike to meet the deadline for the Road House remake by November 10, 2023.

Allegedly, AI was utilized to fabricate voices for the actors featured in the film. A spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios dismissed the lawsuit brought forth by R. Lance Hill, asserting that it lacks merit and refuting several allegations as untrue.

The spokesperson explicitly stated that AI was not utilized to replace the actors’ voices in the movie and expressed readiness to refute the claims made against them.

Additionally, an undisclosed source from EW mentioned the potential use of AI in the early production stages but indicated that Amazon advised the filmmakers to eliminate any AI components from the final version of the film.
